‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Beats The Marvels’ Opening in Pre-Sales Alone, Three Months Early

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is poised to become the highest-grossing movie in domestic box-office history, seems to have achieved the unlikely feat of revitalizing the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The franchise has had a tough few years, suffering box-office setbacks for the first time in its history with films including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Thunderbolts*. Even major titles such as The Fantastic Four: First Steps missed expectations, producing commercial results that would have been acceptable during Phase 2. But Spider-Man: Brand New Day's success prompted Disney to launch pre-sales for its main MCU tentpole of the year, Avengers: Doomsday. So far, the results have been remarkable.

According to Deadline, Avengers: Doomsday has already brought in more than $50 million in pre-sales, three months before its December release. Earlier, box-office analyst portal Global Box Office projected a domestic opening between $270 million and $300 million. That figure could rise given the time left before release. Avengers: Endgame, released in 2019, earned $357 million in its domestic debut — a record broken this year by Spider-Man: Brand New Day's $360 million opening-weekend haul. Avengers: Doomsday will mark the return of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans to the franchise after they appeared to have bowed out in Avengers: Endgame.
