As November arrives, the countdown to the year's biggest cinematic event draws closer. On December 18, the clock strikes Doomsday for MCU fans, as the Russo Brothers promise a "very different" tonal shift from previous Marvel movies that will leave audiences surprised. One thing that won't change is the franchise's habit of packing as many famous faces into one movie as possible. In fact, more names have been added to Doomsday than ever before, as almost anyone associated with the MCU gets an on-screen credit.
Among those names are Robert Downey Jr., returning to the franchise as the villainous Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man, along with Vanessa Kirby, Pedro Pascal, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Florence Pugh, and that only scratches the surface. One cast member hoping to make up for a disappointing 2025 is Anthony Mackie, who led the widely panned Captain America: Brave New World last year. In Aidan Kelley's 4/10 review for Collider, one of many scathing responses to the film, he called it "one of the weakest entries in the decades-spanning franchise," adding, "for a character as revered as Captain America, it's a huge disappointment."
The film also struggled at the box office, no doubt because of poor word of mouth. Against a reported $180 million production budget, it earned a global haul of just $415 million, which is weak for an MCU film, let alone an installment led by one of the most beloved characters, albeit with a new leading face. But don't let last year's disappointment cloud your judgment of Mackie, who has been proving himself a terrific actor for almost 25 years, including in a 2017 gem about to move to a new streamer.
Which Anthony Mackie Movie Is Coming to Plex?

Starting November 1, you can watch 2017's Detroit on the free streaming site Plex. Directed by Academy Award winner Kathryn Bigelow, who would go on to take eight years to make another movie, Detroit impressed critics with its powerful race-related drama set in 1967. The film features an impressive cast alongside Mackie, including Jason Mitchell, Kaitlyn Dever, Will Poulter and Star Wars' John Boyega.
