The theatrical market has changed dramatically in the last few years, with only a handful of movies capable of drawing audiences for longer than a few weeks. This summer's Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey are prime examples of films that have been able to defy trends, as they continue to appear on the domestic top-10 chart more than two months after their release. However, most other movies last only a couple of weeks before they're moved to the PVOD market. For instance, the recently released period action movie The Uprising, starring Andrew Garfield, is already available for rent and purchase digitally. And after just 20 days, Alan Ritchson's new action movie seems poised to join it, having lost around half of its theatrical footprint.

Early reports suggest that the movie will land on PVOD platforms on October 13, which would give it two more weeks in theaters. However, its reach will likely continue to decrease. The movie debuted in around 2,500 theaters and is now playing in roughly 1,300 theaters. So far, it has grossed approximately $14 million domestically, which puts it between the two Jason Statham vehicles of the year — Shelter and Mutiny. It's also poised to overtake Ridley Scott's big-budget bomb, The Dog Stars. Ritchson's movie serves as a major attempt by Angel Studios to diversify its content from faith-based programming to more mainstream fare. While the studio's projects still target religious audiences, some of its newer movies are designed to appeal to a broader audience.

Alan Ritchson Is Having a Phenomenal 2026

There isn't a bigger star in the streaming era than Ritchson, who continues to draw massive attention for Prime Video's Reacher. The action series recently concluded its fourth season, which paved the way for the spin-off show Neagley. Both titles are currently battling for the number-one spot on the global Prime Video chart, according to FlixPatrol. Ritchson already has a major win this year with War Machine, which emerged as the biggest Netflix original of 2026. But we're talking about the action movie Runner. Directed by Scott Waugh and also starring Owen Wilson, the film holds a 77% critics' score and an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The aggregator website's consensus reads, "Fast and gleefully over-the-top, Runner makes the most of Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson's winning chemistry to deliver crowd-pleasing action and humor with plenty of heart."
