Aaron Pierre's 'Reacher'-Like Crime Thriller Is Officially Taking Over the World

2026 is the year of Aaron Pierre, and he's only set to blossom into an even bigger star as the years go along. Pierre made his DCU debut a few weeks ago in the HBO original series, Lanterns, where he stars as John Stewart opposite Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. Pierre has already secured his DCU future, too — it's been confirmed that he will reprise his role as John Stewart in the 2027 Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, which was written and directed by James Gunn. Pierre will also team up with Gabriel Basso and Margaret Qualley for the new Prime Video romance movie, Love of Your Life, which is coming to theaters on October 7 before it begins streaming on October 14. He was even set to have a role in Blade before backing out of the project, which has since been canceled.

Aaron Pierre has been around acting in projects for a while now, but the movie that truly kicked off his career renaissance came back in 2024 with the premiere of Rebel Ridge. The movie picked up over 129 million views during its initial viewing period, which was almost enough to earn it a spot in the all-time Netflix top 10. The show is perfect for Reacher fans, as it centers around a former military operative who finds himself in the middle of a conflict in a small town. There's also shades of Rambo in Rebel Ridge, but those who are interested in checking it out for themselves, or simply rewatching it with the added perspective of Pierre's stellar performance in Lanterns, can do so on Netflix, where it's still streaming.

What Is 'Rebel Ridge' About?

Netflix's official synopsis for Rebel Ridge, which earned a strong score of 95% from critics but a mediocre 73% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, reads as follows:

“Terry Richmond enters the town of Shelby Springs on a simple but urgent mission — post bail for his cousin and save him from imminent danger. But when Terry’s life’s savings is unjustly seized by law-enforcement, he’s forced to go head to head with local police chief Sandy Burnne and his combat-ready officers. Terry finds an unlikely ally in court clerk Summer McBride and the two become ensnared in a deep-rooted conspiracy within the remote township. As the stakes turn deadly, Terry must call upon his mysterious background to break the department’s hold on the community, bring justice to his own family — and protect Summer in the process.”

Don Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, and David Denman also have roles in Rebel Ridge. The film was written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier.
