With production expected to begin next year, the time is ticking ever closer to the world finally learning the identity of the new 007. After acquiring the iconic spy franchise for an eye-watering $1 billion, Amazon's James Bond era is on the way, with two of the finest minds working today already on board. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will pen the next Bond movie, with the great Denis Villeneuve turning his screenplay into an unmissable spy thriller, following the release of his hotly anticipated Dune: Part Three this December.

But Bond isn't the only big franchise Amazon has taken control of. The iconic Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider franchise is the latest beloved character to be given the Prime Video treatment. Currently, a new series based on the video game is in production, with Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge taking on the role of creator, writer, and co-showrunner. But who is donning the tactical gear as Croft? That task will be tackled by Game of Thrones favorite Sophie Turner, who joins the likes of Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, and more in a stacked cast.

Can Turner prove the perfect choice for Croft? Only time will tell, but in the meantime, the most recent great actress to take on the role is staging a comeback. It was released in 2018; Alicia Vikander transformed into an impressive action star to tackle the role, even gaining 5kg of muscle to do most of her own stunts. This came just a couple of years after she won an Academy Award for her portrayal of portrait painter Gerda Wegener in The Danish Girl, showcasing her impressive range. Now, eight years on, and with the new Prime Video series on the way, Vikander's Tomb Raider is currently one of the ten most-watched movies on Netflix in the world.

A 'Fallout' Favorite Also Starred in 'Tomb Raider'

The brilliant Vikander wasn't alone in one of the most underrated video game adaptations ever. Fallout favorite Walton Goggins, Dominic West, Daniel Wu, Kristin Scott Thomas, Derek Jacobi, and more also featured in an impressive ensemble. Sadly, the film faced negative reviews upon arrival, although it has since earned retrospective praise from fans. Against a production budget of $90 million, Tomb Raider earned a global haul of $275 million during a strong theatrical run.
