It's spooky season, and the world is in the mood for a horror film. Right now, one of the most-watched shows on streaming is the modern master of horror's interpretation of a Stephen King classic. In both the U.S. and worldwide, Mike Flanagan's Carrie is topping the streaming charts, as viewers indulge in Summer C. Howell's portrayal of the famous telekinetic outsider, alongside co-stars Samantha Sloyan, Amber Midthunder, and Matthew Lillard.

Called "definitely worth a watch for those who hold the novel near and dear to their hearts" by Collider's Nate Richard in his review, Carrie is certainly bringing the spooky season spirit to the small screen. On the big screen, horror is also proving popular, courtesy of Host director Rob Savage's Other Mommy, which stars Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain in a dual role that feels at least somewhat inspired by Coraline. Last weekend at the box office, Other Mommy debuted to a $27.8 million domestic haul, placing it at the top of the charts where it outperformed several big titles, including The Social Reckoning, Tom Cruise's satirical black comedy Digger, and the latest Colleen Hoover adaptation, Verity.

Based on the 2024 novel Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman, Other Mommy stars Chastain as the distracted, workaholic mother of 8-year-old Bela (Arabella Olivia Clark), who is haunted by a sinister entity that comes out of her closet in the shape of her mom. Just as the film is getting started in theaters, you can already turn your attention to a viewing of Other Mommy from the comfort of your own couch. Right now, preorders for the film's 4K, Blu-ray, and 4K steelbook release are already available, although a release date and any bonus features have yet to be announced.

'Other Mommy' Has Been Torn Apart By Critics

Audiences in the millions might be flocking to see Other Mommy, but that film has far from impressed critics. With a dismal average score of just 15% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, it's fair to say that this is one of the worst-reviewed films of 2026 so far. ScreenRant's Josh Bate awarded just 4/10 in his review, criticizing the film for horror elements that "fall completely flat." You can make up your own mind by watching Other Mommy in theaters now.
